Statistics Glossary

Mean
the sum of all the members of the set divided by the number of items in the set; the average.
Standard Error
the standard deviation of the process by which it was generated, after adjusting for sample size.
Median
a number that separates the higher half of a sample, a population, or a probability distribution from the lower half.
Mode
the value that has the largest number of observations, namely the most frequent value or values.
Standard Deviation
measures how spread out the values in a data set are.
Sample Variance
a measure of its statistical dispersion, indicating how far from the expected value its values typically are.
Kurtosis
a measure of the "peakedness" of the probability distribution of a real-valued random variable
Skewness
a measure of the asymmetry of the probability distribution of a real-valued random variable
Range
the length of the smallest interval which contains all the data.
Minimum
Nothing is smaller
Maximum
Nothing is larger
Sum
Total value of all the observations
Count
Number of units counted to achieve sum
Largest(1)
largest observed sample
Smallest(1)
smallest observed sample
Confidence Level(95.0%)
the most prevalent form of interval estimation
